Why do you need a racking inspection?
Your racks and shelves may look very sturdy and robust, capable of loading tonnes of weight, but it is nothing more than a metallic structure, held together by pins and hooks. The joints and floor anchoring system must be sound to hold the system together.
To make sure that the weight is well-distributed, the structure has a balanced geometry, regular inspection is required. Many forces act daily on your racks and shelves, be it the vibration of the forklift truck or the loading and unloading with pallets. It is essential to conduct a timely inspection to avoid any serious damage or accident in the future by misplaced components.
What We Look For
We check for the strength, serviceability, corrosion, rusting, and overall condition of the racks in a visual inspection.
The assessment includes:
- Impact damage by material handling equipment
- Corrosion caused by the environment or loading/unloading of stocks
- Missing/damaged safety pins and hooks
- Load sign details and compliance
- Twisted or leaned posts – out of plumb racking
- Dissembled/loose/missing racking components
- Permanent deformation of the horizontal beam (deflection)
With a proper racking inspection, you can immediately identify faulty or damaged components in the system.
